Judge: Glines ,Mark Very easy beginning, eases you into the beat nicely. I like the drum track, its actually not boring to listen to. ( big plus :) ) Very non-repetitive, basically starts from scratch (aside from the tempo) at mid-song. Spiffyness. The second section's beat is also interesting to listen to. I like how it went back to the first beat at the end of the song. Very interesting piece to listen to, it kept me listening in anticipation throughout. I like it! |
Judge: Kyaw ,Kevin I must say that alot of work seems to have gone into this piece, all the work was needed since the artist tried to merge two different styles/songs together. The intro part of the song was very good. The panning/volume envelopes were well used throughout the song making the song sound smooth. The bass was abit repetitive but not enough to bother you. The melodies were interesting and creative. The only problem I found was with the sample quality, especially sample #41. The blip at the very start of the sample was very annoying. All in all, this is a very well tracked piece of music. |
Judge: Majeran ,Nick Ok, so maybe I was expecting a rooster song. Anyway, "Chanticlier" delivers some interesting musical information. The first major part with the dance beat and the piano bits were okay, but the major transition into the the acidtrip-hoppy "breakdown" is where the song becomes interesting. Although drum loops are used throughout the song, they are used well, especially in the breakdown. The tiny bit of vocal flavor in the drum loop adds another dimension to it. Panning was used very well, and sample selection and usage was also proficient. There just seemed to be something missing from this song to me, and I just can't put my finger on it. |
Judge: Lamy ,William Effective piece of music. You use clean samples, but the way you played piano parts sounds unrealistic (over-detuning). The overdriven sounds are neat : you made an amazing second part. Good breakbeat. You did a very professional ending. The overall style of the song is well-controlled, but could be more original or personnal. |
Judge: Pinkas ,JanPinky Good song. As rookie composer looks like profi. Fresh speedy sound. Good sampes with well used FX and real good but REAL good panning. Very good is changing the speed/the mood. |
Judge: Nowik ,George This song has good harmonies and melodies. I like the way that the pads and chords are handled very well, as opposed to letting them cut out too quickly. The mix of the vast majority of the samples is done very well, with the minor exception of the piano sample. It seems to not fit too well in with the rest of the song and is just slightly out of tune as compared to the rest of the samples being used. It almost sounds like the pianos are a little too much on the 'tinny' side and lacking some of the substance that they would need for a more effective sound. Solutions would be to use a piano sample with a little more of a fat sound (a little more bass and middle range in it) or acquire more piano samples to cover the range that you are using. Most of the samples are 'tweaked' in some form as well, so tweaking the pianos just a little bit might be a good solution. The change from section one to section two with the rezzo samples is done very well. The use of some of the unique samples to make it sound like there is real action happening (i.e. real-time modulation on a keyboard) is done very well. The ending of the song goes back to the original theme in a very reminiscant manner which sets a good mood. Good form. Being a prog-rocker, of course I will enjoy a good change like the one in the middle. Very well done song. |
