Judge: Glines ,Mark Ooh. Semi-chamber-music style (at least at the beginning). With a beat. Best of both worlds :) The song keeps its bottom-level-progressive-chords a bit too long between switches tho... The lead used from track 35-end is a bit too much tho... whatever it is, it has too much noise and not quite enough tune. I have to strain to make out what pitch its playing at. Its an ok song. |
Judge: Haskin ,Ian -got my foot tappin' right away -beat needs to sound less techno -order 1B, no no no, well, ok, but soften the xylophone a bit, was very intrusive -as the song progresses it gets away from the mood that was set at the beginning, I liked the initial mood -HOWEVER, the horns sound pretty cool -ending was blah, and its cuts off too fast neat tune, definetely original |
Judge: Sega ,Andrew This song is a classic example of a good idea taken a bit too far. The intro guitar melody is pretty nice (Em A7 G A7). However, it goes on and on and on, and then morphs into strings which are playing the same notes. The drum samples are a bit too noisy. The other samples are adequately used (the vibes sound fairly nice). This tune could have been a 5-minute extended solo in the middle of another more varied piece. But since it's not, it doesn't work very well. |
Judge: Gong ,Abe Pretty good jazzy atmosphere here. One of the best intermediates I judged this year... Nice beat, samples, The guitar(?) got a little repetitious in the beginning, in fact, there was usually a background instrument that didn't quite seem to quiet down enough. The 'pace' picked up towards the end, which was nice, but there wasn't a really strong feeling of progression or build up. It seemed more like moving from one section to another w/o any more intensity. All in all, though, a nice track. |
Judge: Norilo ,Vesa The acoustic guitar sample is good, but you should use volume and note delays to give it more life. The lead could be also livened up with volume variance. The beat is not very inspiring with poor samples and unimaginative rythm. Somehow the sound of this song is so computerish that I am annoyed. Even the acoustic guitar lead is played with mechanical precision and no feeling or atmosphere at all. Reminds me of Kraftwerk. The transition into swingy rythm wasn't a terrific idea. This kind of mechanical precision is acceptable with backgrounds, but leads should have the right-brained touch. This tune sounds like the poorly made General Midi tunes out there. |
