Judge: Rice ,Jeremy This song isn't half as good as Tiara. The samples are all generic and don't fit together as well as they should. The rhythm could use some serious volume control. You use the same simple progressiong throughout 98% of the song. You use lame snare creschendos (don't). This song is just one idea, mixed and built and decayed over and over. And yet, like Tiara, I find this song strangely addictive. I don't know what it is--I suspect it's that bassline, which I ended up humming to myself like a madman for the rest of the -friggin- day, or maybe it -is- the simpolicity of this song that makes it so damn catchy. ...This is not a song that wins contests. And I'm not going to boost your score because I like it--technically, this song is fairly weak. But this song wins, with me, in the "listenability" department. Occasionally you find a mod that you know is technically less than impressive, but you find yourself playing it all the time, looping endlessly in the background. This may be one such song. You will not place well for writing this song, but you've found one more fan. |
Judge: Prouteau ,Thierry Good try at a techno/dance tune. There really is all the "cliches" : beatting drums, acid, piano with some echos. Maybe it lacks a chorus that stay in mind after listening your song. I wonder if it is useful to use samples like 12, 14, 16, 18 & 19. Why didn't you just sample the note at different octave and play it like that. I'm sure you could have saved sample space. Another thing, i find it useless to play the same sample in two or more channel at the same time if it's not to make some sort of stereo thing. Why don't you rise the volume of the instrument instead ? You just use too much channels for a music that needs only 16 or 20. Let's try another style and you'll see if you really have skills because techno is often easier to compose than other style of music. Keep the good work guy. |
Judge: VanOlmen ,Erland This is a rather xomplex song, with quite some variation. Nice rhythm. Maybe you used too many channels. No real problems in this module as far as I'm concerned. Sorry for this VERY short comment but I just realised that the actual deadline is at Sun 10/8 00:00 GMT instead of Sun 10/8 24:00 GMT! I'm terrible sorry. |
Judge: Jonsson ,Agust Hmmm... fairly uninspired sorta trancy track. It's ok in a way, but there's nothing here to err write home about ;) Very bog standard average song. The samples ain't bad (apart from the bleeps, which are a bit noisy). |
Judge: Hu ,Kochun Overall this song is a presentable, if somewhat bland, entry. It uses quite a few cliches, and this lack of innovation hurts. The bass line makes a minor third (G-Bb) and becomes very repetitive which quickly starts to tire the ears. There is too much repetition in the rest of the song, as well. Sample 10, for example is used to repeat the same little ditty without so much as a volume variation to make it interesting; this makes it sound as if the part was played by an unimaginative robot with a glockenspiel. There is also the unfortunate dependence on acid samples prevalent in a lot of songs in this genre; here, you use the acid samples to sustain a single note throughout. Of course, your choice of a acid line extended-sample limits your usage, but that's certainly no excuse. It would have been trivial to chop up the acid samples to use separately, allowing you to change the note without messing up the timing. |
