Judge: Lee ,Elliott Two phases in this song: a soothing bell-like intro, followed by a dance-y groove. What brought this song down was not lack of creativity---you were able to create some combinations of tones between bells and sweeping synths---but continuity. The intro doesn't seem to have any connection to the latter half. And the latter half is this grungy, grinding, repetitive pounding groove that doesn't seem to carry on any aspect of the intro save for using some bells. Also, there is no bridge between those two halves. There's just silence followed by this weird dichotomy of synth sounds segueing into a piano solo. It seems that you repeatedly begin a theme of something, then stop to abandon it for something else. While this might work well with visual effects, it doesn't cut it for a short song like this on its own. Keep practicing! |
Judge: Frown ,Anthony Truly ephemeric. First, where's panning ? I saw only some simple instrument panning envelopes - and that's all. Central panning isn't that funny... Second, intro is not connected (at all) with the theme. C maj / A min scale throughout the tune - and I suspect it's the only scale used by amateurs. Simple, non-panned drums. Theme is repetitive, however, nicely arranged. Cymbals at the end are awful. Samples are nice, however, truly, most of them were converted to 16 bit from old good 8 bits without any noise reduction. For what reason ? Tuned nicely, and that's all. Overally, the tune is musically correct, but I suppose its place is in the Rookie, not Intermediate category, sorry. |
Judge: Voss ,Andrew I would've expected better samples for a tune of this size. Song structure needs work. Intro halts too abruptly, middle gets too discordant, and the cymbals at the end are excessive. |
Judge: Norilo ,Vesa Sample set is too big for the quality. Samples range from bad to OK. Sound is very chaotic and incoherent in some places. Beat is too haphazard to set a pace to this song. The distorted guitar and sawwave samples work fine, justifying their 16 bit resolution. Some nice ideas with panning. The different parts are not very well blended together. In most aspects this tune has a rookie sound rather than intermediate. The mix is clear and bright, maybe due to the extensive use of 16bit samples. |
Judge: Stewart ,David Interesting beginning but not very nice to listen to. You've got a lead break but no melody! You seem to have used your synthy bassline as the melody and since it is the same the whole way through the second portion it gets boring very quickly. Samples are good quality but for such a short simple song I can't see how you could reach almost a megs worth. Doesn't hold interest. Try using the tried and true Verse, Bridge, Chorus structure. It would have given the song some much needed variance. |
