This song tells a beautiful story, but it could be better. The themes work well, the idea is presented well, but your samples could use some work. There was a feeling at points that the song lacked body, especially toward the end. Basically, you needed more bass and bigger accompaniment. Both leads were too high and thin to stand alone. A more full accompaniment would have helped drastically and pushed your song up a few levels. Otherwise, good.

Long bass in the intro has been used time and time again. Lead sample is too screechy and hurts the ears, especially with the longer notes. Reasonable transition to the mid-section; I like the speed change. Bassdrum too weak, and drums need a snare or a tap of some kind. The melody is okay but try to span the notes of the melody over your patterns, rather than starting each pattern with a new note - that way, your melody will have a character of its own and won't be driven by the rest of the piece. An interesting tune, my main criticism being that the intro seems to build up a much harder and faster tune than what actually comes out.

This was an unusual sounding song as far as tracks go these days. I liked the lonely melody at the beginning and thought that the drums did an excellent job of blending in. The only glaring problem I see is the instrument you used as the main voice sounds REALLY grating. I think it detracts a from the song, perhaps something a little more mellow sounding. Overall, it is a solid entry with an unusual celtic sound to the melody. I like.

A very good overall feeling to the song. The lead is a bit tinny and the "soundscape" tends to be a bit weak, however this is in line with the wind-blown feel of the song.

"Horizons" does a lot with just a few instruments. The overall orchestration was pretty good and the choice of instruments was appropriate. It would be nice, however, if the piece used better quality instruments and more expression was placed on instruments. The lead saxophone had several points where the tones were held out for an extended time at the same volume. It would have been better to introduce vibrato or gradually lower the volume.

Judge: Pugh ,Matthew

Nice beginning, but the oboe-sounding instrument seems to be a bit too loud. It would probably work better if it were quieted down a little more so it blended in to the song. The oboe should be at the volume of the flute-melody later in the song. Nice pick up at pattern 9. The song is very enjoyable. There is not a part in the whole song that I think is repetiteve or dull. The song flows nicely, and keeps me attached to its development like a storybook. This song just needs a little sample work. Some samples should be toned down like the oboe in patterns 4-F. If this problem is fixed, then this song would be better.
