Judge: Lee ,Elliott Good beat and clean samples. It is a decent song and does have some chord changes, but very few. The biggest criticism about it is that is very repetitive: cookie cutter-type repetitive. You take a pattern and copy it, maybe use the keyboard commands to change the instrument pitch, maybe delete a column of instrument data to remove it from the pattern just for a little variety. Then layer on some low synth sounds and pepper the sound space with these poppy voice/bell samples (Inst 5, Samp 6). It's not a bad way to go, but it's just not extremely interesting. So, you get most of your points for your great sample quality (appropriate, I might add) and tightness of the beat, but there isn't any nice synth solo or great chord progression that just perks the ears. It is the kind of song that you can listen to once and basically pick up all the elements from it; it is not the kind of song that you listen to over and over again, each time finding new things. So, points for improvement: 1) you've got a solid base, but now it's time to work on things like melody and harmony, 2) you have panning down pretty well but could use variety on the volume, and 3) shorten the samples or reduce them to 8-bit. 16-bits gives you great quality but when you mix everything together, it really doesn't matter that much---what matters is the song content. |
Judge: Hesse ,Liam A fairly accomplished techno track. The percussion is well enough managed for the genre, and the melody has a suitably percussive rhythmic feel to it. The samples used in the melody part of the track are ideal for this. The strings have just the right feel, although occasionally they sound like they're just thrown in there to fill a hole (orders 67-74). Order 75 brings a welcome return to the rhythmic melody section. I notice the bassline also has a strong rhythmic base to it, which suits the piece. The ending fits well, bringing the track to a solid and well-defined close. |

[Filename]m6i-lorb.it [Title]Lunar Orbit [General comment]Boom-tsj-Boom-tsj-Boom-tsj-Boom-tsj-Boom-tsj-tetetetetetetetrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr tsssj-tssj-tssj-tssj...Familiar lyrical beat interpretation? yeps it's called "commercial" mixed with a bit of kraftwerx brands and then some organical synths to combine the whole stuphz. O please do not misunderstand me (yet) this song is quite good in it's concept arrangements and variation, certainly the use of various sound effects deserve a medal but this song misses some dynamics in key-change and i don't mean pattern-pitching one semitone up the first four patterns and then changing some details, i mean completely adding some dynamics in chording, melodical aspects, baseline and percussional aspects... I don't expect them to be in such song all together because that is a bit too perfect, but at least one or two of them more could not hurt your creation any bit. |
Judge: Jonsson ,Agust WERD! Yum, I like this one a lot :) Nice dancy trance track, lots of bleeps'n'shit all the way through, and bouncy enough to keep me grooving on the floor, and that even the first time I listened to it. Nice use of panning and positioning in the soundscape. The samples too are good, and well, what can I say, but Good job? :) Maybe the only thing I wanted to hear was a little bit more variation on the drumtrack, but it's not important :) I will definitely keep this one for a while :) |
Judge: Goddard ,Michael Order 10 +, Ch 9-10, use a wider pan for more a spacial feel. The acidish sample sounds better with surround panning. It has just enough changes to keep me interested. Instrument 6, when used in chords should have a X40, XC0, X40... pann too, middle pannings are boring imho. It sorta fades out at the end, no big finish or anything :( But otherwise, hehe, I thought it was a great song and I'll be listening to it for quite some time to come :) PS I did this in a hurry as I couldn't lets a song such as this miss out by getting too few votes in. Good luck on future songs, I can see the emergence of a good veteran musicmaker here :) |
