Judge: Lee ,Elliott Not bad, but lacks in areas of: sample quality, guitar leads (sounded more like MIDI guitars rather than a real guitar), and progression. The song seems to just drag on because of two things: 1) it has a relatively slow pace (not a bad trait, really), and 2) the repetitive use of patterns. The song seems to revisit the guitar lead (Patterns 0x00-0x03) a number of times as if it were the main theme. But, as far as leads go, it is a particularly interesting lead. The other segments of the song do show more creativity but are more of a filler in between guitar solos because the only thing that is "moving" is the chord structure provided by a choir. What would have been nice touches: voice samples (humans, beasts), congas, ambient sound effects, sweeping synth sounds, and more vibrant leads. So, a good effort in general. |
Judge: Frown ,Anthony Not too much about this one. No panning at all - that causes pain in my, eh, precise ears and sounds not funny at all. Again, amateurish C maj / Amin or whatever - whites only. Simple, but obscure tactics. Weak, over-repetitive drumline (kinda I-Wanna-Go-Industrial-But-Dunno-How) - boom slam boom boom slam throughout the whole tune. Synths are too repetitive - ta ta ta, ta ta ta... Very annoying. According to the author, there are only 4 types of volume setting - 0, 16, 32, 64. Either the author a programmer, or a Rookie. No jokes, I'm sorry. Theme is too discrete, no sound flow. No portas. Sampled FXes are obscure. Annoying higher frequencies. Samples are overused; fine-tuned. Overally - correct, but too amateurish and over-repetitive. |
Judge: Girard ,Marc Cool sound FX. There's a Bass that's old as my grand-ma, can't stand those no more! :) Your samples are quite loud and distorted. The mix is missing some definition but it's got cool Oxx commands that reminds me of The Crystal Method. You're getting there! :) |
Judge: Pakula ,Taylor I do believe I have heard every sample in this song in a number of different places. Sample ripping this heavy is understandable if the composer doesn't have access to a ton of gear, but this particular sample set consisted of very common (in days gone by) samples. I am sure that with more effort the composer could have found suitable samples that weren't so overused. The total lack of panning knocked a ton of points off the score. The whole song sounded like pretty much the same thing over and over. I know there was (some) variation to it, but it got lost among the overall redundance of the song. |
Judge: Telgarsky ,Matus I really enjoyed the song. the samples were nice and unique. Try experimenting with panning some more. maybe if one of your continuous loops could go between speakers in a loop would be real cool. Also try playing with volume some. Good Work! |
