Judge: Mccuen ,Steve I like the way it starts and continues to build to pattern 7. Pattern 7 starts with a pan flute type instrument which I like. Mixes both older more traditional sounds with newer techno sounds. |
Judge: Reed ,Ben Again, another fairly generic song. I like the kind of almost oriental feel it gets out of the flute, even though I'm truly sick of that sample... ;) Pretty decent progression, but the synth that starts at the beginning of the song starts to grate after a while. Overall, there's really nothing spectacular about this song, but it's not bad either. |
Judge: Epp ,Jonathan Uninspiring drums, but they are built up nicely. Samples aren't particularly interesting, but they're ok. The flute lead isn't very original, though it is well done. The lead sound starting around order 15 is ok, but too loud. Sometimes seems a bit bass empty, but the bass is pretty good when it's there. The ending is little more than a fadeout, I was kinda hoping for something better. Overall not a bad tune though. |
Judge: JiménezChapresto ,Eduardo It sounds very well. The flutes melody is very good. The beginning is worst than the rest of the song. It has a good technique and the form is quite well. I have liked it much. |
Judge: Pakula ,Taylor The sinebass sample was used with skill. It helped keep the song interesting. My ears missed it during the b sections at orders 11-13 and 17-20. The snare drum wasn't dynamic enough; could have used some volume changes on the rolls. The leads also lacked this, and thus sounded rather lifeless. The vibrato on the squarewave lead at order 15 was too fast. The composer made good use of sample 17 to add rhythm to the track. The strings were well balanced volume-wise, and added just the right amount of direction. They kept my ears on track with the chord progression. I was anxious to hear a breakdown or a drop out on the drums, but I was disappointed when that never happened. As for the samples, the hihats were much too distorted. The leads were distorted as well, but they actually kind of benefitted from this. Overall, a song that deserves more than just a listen or two. |
Judge: West ,David This song had some good ideas and had decent samples and tuning. It had a decent melody but the melody was overused. Lack of variety hurt this song most. Doubling channels on the melody is very very bad technique when there is 0 difference between the channels but panning. Lowing other channel's volume works much better. The harmony and chord progression was decent but bland and slow. Make it a little more exciting. The melody had nice effects on it though, which made it sound much more realistic than the sample allowed it to be. A non-existent end to the song hurt it. Good luck on your next song! |
