Judge: Majeran ,Nick The author of this song did a good job of keeping this trance tune interesting. The music just flows, and keeps the listener flowing right along with it. Panning is used effectively; as more instruments are added, "Twisted to the Brink" never seems overloaded. The sample set, uniform and synergistic, enhances the overall mood of "Twisted to the Brink." Although the song runs over six minutes, I did not tire of it. The transitions were nothing spectacular, but worked well in the sense that they did not disrupt any flow the song created. The simple fadeout ending, although simple, fit the song. |
Judge: Nel ,Jonathan First of all, I didnt like the fact that you used a drumloop that i have heard probably about 45749857 times before in other songs. The echo's on your acid samples were too loud, and it detracts from the backing samples. I also found that sometimes your subbass sample seemed out of tune, it is really risky to use those in a song unless you have a subwoofer yourself, and then think about how many of your potential listeners have subwoofers too? Smaller speakers normally make them sound tinny and too high, so be careful when using those samples. The break into the solid 4/4 beat was an interesting move, I had expected it to come, and your song took form a lot better once this happened. From pattern 30 it really did get too repetitive, and near the end the beeps were out of tune. The song has some flaws which could be easily fixed to make it a more solid tune, but a good effort all the same. Good Luck. |
Judge: Kavanagh ,Cliff To start off, the song begins with some very nice panning. This continues throughout the piece, which was nice to see. The author used some really nice samples. However, I found the song very repetitive as the author only uses one rythm, and just carries it over to the next key change. As well, the song is way too long, going clear over the 4 minute mark. While this song is original and does do a few nice things, the lack of rythm changes and repetitivness really hurt the song. |
Judge: Pinkas ,JanPinky This song is full of profi samples ;) but that is bad that they are used in little bit monotonous sound. For 'I' sound it seems to me good. |
Judge: Norilo ,Vesa Nice drumloop with innovative breaks built into the loop. Sampled chords don't work very well here, but they are your only option, unless you dropped that fancy phasing. Some nice resonance samples, but they should be used with more imagination. The song gets too repetitive after a while. Some good touches with the form, with build-ups and parts more tranquil. Mixing could be a bit better, since it is really crucial with this kind of ambient music. Good use of panning in most parts. |
Judge: Fok ,Bernard Nice chord progression at the beginning, and a very good sample for it too. A gradual buildup of samples keeps the listener's attention going, but eventually got too repetitive in my opinion even though there was a buildup of samples all the way to the end of the song. Nice side-to-side panning effect on one of the short synth samples. |
