Good collection of battle sounds -- but some of the instruments themselves need work (the generic brass sample has some aliasing warble which could come from sampling at too low a rate). NNA's are used, as are envelopes (which should have been logarithmic, not integral). Moderate panbrello on most instruments was a plus -- it kept the song from sounding too stationary. Panning was also used well on the sound effects. Now the song -- ah, the song. The main compositional problem was that the second song lacked continuity with the first (and they sound like different songs), and that bad trumpet sample really kills the listenability of that second part. With all the sound effects, this song doesn't stand all that well alone, but could fit quite well inside a video or demo with well-synched visuals (a new niche market for trackers?).

In general, this tune is a nice effort of writing a film score-like tune, but sadly, it lacks really good ideas. The single themes are introduced and then suddenly vanish again before one was really able to listen to them. Concerning the sounds, it's ok, only the drums are sometimes TOO harsh and the brass sounds, especially the lead trumpet in the last theme, sound just too plain. But still, it's a nice tune.

definitely fits the title; sounds like the theme song for War Craft 3, very nice and relaxed intro. War samples are excellent & well placed. Nice buildup of explosions & strings into a ambient chorus. Little distortion from the too many crash samples. Tempo/beat needs some kind of changeup, but the beat that is there is right on and consice.

*File Specs* [Additional vote] An entry which does not belong in this division [Filename]m6r-bama.it [Title]Battlefield March [General comment]This is a very good creative theme which has a very wide and impressive repetoire, good impact and a lot of good emulation-disciplines. The Main flute in the intro is too soft, the trumpet mains in the middle are too syntheticly used:i heard no tremolo which mostly being used here and the trumpets could have used some offset techniques to hide the initial blow-length of the sample when playing lower frequencies. Why am i cutting down into details? this song could have been entered in Intermediate division too and scored real nice. If there was no possible way for the author to be capable of determining the song's skill (no other songs made yet or no one who has vision enough to see what skill the author has etc.) you now know that you will make a fool out of yourself next year if entering the same division, compare before entering or let someone else try to examine your other work to determine what devision you can enter.

All together I would have to say that this tune wasn't too bad for a rookie song. It tended to rely too much on the over-simplistic drum beat, and ultimately failed to carry a melody. The first five or so patterns weren't really necessary at all, and only delayed the tune, acting as usefull as an intro of pure silence. And when a melody finally began to play over the drums at about the 17th pattern, it wasn't carried through as it should have been but instead was cut off suddenly to bring the listener back to the simple march that should have been secondary to the rest of the song, rather than at the constant foreground. And when the song finally began again in the 26th pattern, the entire song was lost to the listener and eventually came to its anti-climatic finale. But still, this song was better than a lot of the other rookie tunes (and some intermediate).
