Judge: Hansen ,Torben Groovy intro and a really mystical tune. There's not really a melody to this tune, but still I think it's an ok tune. The tune is somewhat special with a strange groovy touch - it sure is a really original piece IMO. With a lead and an extended chordstructure, this tune would have potential! Generally I think these rookie-entries are quite good, which perhaps rises the question whether there really is a need for an intermediate division. Anyway, as I kinda mentioned before, the structure is too monotone in this piece. There's no change of key - no chorus - just the same 'melody', if you can call it that, played by the strings. The samples are well picked and suits the track quite well. A better version of this tune could perhaps be achieved by putting in a chorus - change of key - adding a funky lead that matches the vintage synclavier samples used. Btw the chord-samples (Korg Poly-6 samples I believe they are) needs a little tuning compared to the warped 'bass'-samples. |
Judge: Lesuisse ,Anthony Everything is too much repetitive, the drums (which otherwise are really good), little melody and strings melody. The sound on channel 15 is boring. |
Judge: Reed ,Ben Interesting beginning, but it loops too much without going anywhere. Definitely good control over the tracker for a rookie, the drums are interesting, and change enough to not get boring. This one's nicer than a couple of the intermediate tunes I rated. ;) It's definitely a groove-along atmospheric song, but it's interesting, and everything blends together well. Good choice of samples, I recognize a few, but then, who am I to criticize? I usually rip most of mine... ;) Getting pretty late into the song and it's not really going anywhere. It would be nice to have a little change in the chord progression, and the breakdown to the strings is kind of abrupt, but it's a good tone to end the song with. Overall, an interesting base for a song, I just wish you had done more with it. |
Judge: Isaacson ,Michael An overly confusing and chaotic song with little support throughout. The melody tends to drag on after about 5 patterns and the samples chosen have been overused as it is. This song does stand on its own two feet with its techinal achivements, but lacks the colorful creative air that prooves good form. |
Judge: Hampton ,Chris Great stuff here.. You've got some original and interesting drum samples and a nice beat going on in the very beginning.. Nice job using offsets to give the drums a little stereo sound. Hihats are a bit loud when they come in with the clavi line (which is a bit soft). Later, the pads you mix in are nice, but there's not much low bass in it. The open hihats you have going are way too loud (cut them by 50% and the closed hihats by about 75%). The melody you come in with with that synth is pretty good.. Maybe could use a soft harmony along with it. You come in with another synth playing an arpeggio-like line. It's getting a little boring now, due to lack of real variation. So fare, this song has been going like this: every few patterns you add something new. That's not much real variation :D .. Your ending is cool, because of that nice sounding melody with the pads and chords. I like the fadeout. This song would be excellent if it went somewhere (wouldn't all songs be?). You do no variations at all. It's really just a buildup, with the same chords playing over and over again. That's what kills this song. The samples in it were nice.. And I think, even mostly original. This song was musically pretty original, as well, but I suppose you didn't have many ideas to go with since you made no real changes in the song. It is technically alright.. You did a good job with panning and making things stereo, and surround. Musically? It gets boring.. |
Judge: Noel ,Elliott Strange and irregular, interesting to listen to. Nothing terribly out of tune, although some of the harmonies are a little weird. |
