Judge: Mcphesron ,Jonathan Well, let's see... samples. About average, well-chosen. Artistic style. I've got more to say on that one. The overall ability of this composer to create mood is phenomenal. From the guitar to the peaceful leads to the clever atmospheric effects, this is just a nice piece. So what's wrong with it? For one, time. This piece reminded me of walking past a boat's window and noting that I was sailing past the tropical island. This tune would have definitely done better if it had lasted longer than a brief minute or two. What's there is good, but it doesn't stick around. Still, 'tis definitely better for the composer to end the tune if they've run out of composing material than to try to fill some arbituary goal on song length. That's even worse. This composer clearly said what they needed to, bowed politely, and left. Ah, honesty. For another, variation. Yes, this composer creates an excellent atmosphere but it only changes once right around the middle of the song when the thunder and rain come in. (Did I mention that I thought that was a nice touch? It was.) One drumbeat, one constant background. The only thing that does much changing besides the sudden shift in the middle is the lead melody. Lastly, ending. The song is dancing merrily along and then ... stops, fairly abruptly. In conclusion, this is an above-average piece, but it it could be better. Keep working on those tracks. :-) |
Judge: Majeran ,Nick A well-thought out, well-executed rookie entry. Melodic and somewhat ambient, the song is relaxing and soothing, much like a stay on a tropical island should be. Because rain is a fact of life on a tropical island, the thunder, lightning, and rain fx add a nice touch without being obtrusive. I had a real problem with the military snare in the song, as it seemed to upset the overall flow of the song. Transitions were eased into, creating very little tension. The ending was a bit lacking, but not terribly. The beginning could have used a bit more of a transition into the main part of the song. |
Judge: Jonsson ,Agust Werd! At last! A Good Rookie Tune! :) Simply put, I liked it. Very nice samples, good tracking, good tune, nice sound effects, nice use of pannings, heck just a really nice tune, can't complain much over this one, apart from wondering what this track is doing in the rookie section? :P |
Judge: Norilo ,Vesa Some samples come straight out of a Korg X5 unless I am totally mistaken. Well, that is just an observation. And the samples are mostly very good, too. Nice sound and good use of panning. Your rookiehood can be heard here, but the song is still enjoyable and the mix is very good, better than your tracking skills would imply. Great mood-change once the rain starts. :) Maybe the weakest point of this song is the general lack of direction. The chord progressions don't lead anywhere, and the lead follows the line. Ending was disappointing and abrput. Anyway, a good try. Better than many. |
Judge: Hesse ,Liam One obvious flaw in this tune - the string sample (14) is badly tuned. The rest of the song, while kinda clichéd, is pleasant to listen to. There's nothing really striking, but it's kinda grown on me. I might keep hold of this one. =) |
