Judge: Abersold ,Mark Gakk! 303 samples! Those are the most overused percussion samples in existence. Try not to use them in the future. Now, regarding sample six. It didn't make a very effective transition sample. It was played a few rows to early, so it didn't dovetail into the next pattern; and as far as transitions go, this one didn't sound too great. Sample seven, your bassline, sounded out of tempo because you would play a new note every 3 lines in each channel. Also, you put them in double channels for no reason. All the notes could have been together in one channel with no change in the sound. You didn't use any of IT's powerful intrument abilities, or other such technical advantages it has. Remember, IT is the most powerful tracker out there. Learn how to use the instruments and it should make tracking a lot easier. |
Judge: Godden ,Daniel Nice wind sample at the beginning. The opening offbeat bassline interesting. But then the tune get a bit repeditive. The samples are fine and intune. Rythmically the piece is good, but there is a lack of melody and variation to hold the interest of the listener, a change in tempo and/or key would have made this a much more interesting tune. As a techno/dance style piece of music it is okay but nothing great. Again more variation, and also maybe a few more samples could have een used. |
Judge: Soderstrom ,Tim The wind and the rain. In this case, it's the wind with that sound effect that one always hears in "Kung Fu - The Legend Continues". If you do use wind as a sound effect DON'T overuse it, rather use it sparingly and, at best, with other things - flowing water, or rain, feet walking in the dirt, perhaps. When the techno kicks in, the wind doesn't fit at all. It's an annoying element that brings me back to reality and prevents me from listening to the song with bigger enjoyment and perception. There appears to be somewhat of a flow in this song, but it all boils down to the same techno song. I've told many people - techno is easy, GOOD techno is hard to do. You did try putting melody into a techno song, something which should be done more. The samples do not sound perfectly tuned to each other, espcially that bass. Looking through the eyes of a rookie, this song is very nice, compared to other rookie entries, but from a musical perspective entirely, the song has some ways to go before people go out of their way to hear it. I've been a rookie too, but the best information I can give you is practice. It sounds like you have some potential, but you need some musical common sense, and you need to find the feel of the music. Also, listen and and analize songs that you hear - download some of the Intermediate and Veteran entires (especially the winners - when the come out). Good luck, and Good job! |
Judge: Norilo ,Vesa Sample set sounds contemporary and quite well chosen. Panning of the effect sample in the intro part is too extreme - maybe you could have used the effect sample with multiple pitches, each with different panning to create "surrounding" feeling. Unfortunately, the best part of this song seems to be the samples. Your beat has the professional sound, but no imagination whatsoever. I find the rest of the song as unchallenging and uninspiring. The bass could be a bit more coherent and 'on the beat' for this kind of dance music. I try not to let my personal distaste for this kind of music to affect the score overmuch. The sound is decent, but it could use some creativity, too. |
Judge: Abshire ,Jeffrey This song just plain doesn't go anywhere. Many of the notes on instrument 13 that you usually use in channle 9 don't fit with the rest of the song. When you put the two themes togetherin orders 14-17, they don't mesh at all. There's really not much I can say about the song, it just goes on and on repeating itself and then just ends. The fact is, there just isn't a "hook" in this song, something to catch the listener's ears and cause intrest in your song. |
