Judge: Trencsenyi ,Zsolt This will be a strange, interesting tune - I told when I heared the first patterns. Strange samples, huge-deep bass. But repeating that over... then those snares came... whooh. So, You showed a very unusual arrangement and instrumentation. Just a pitty - You could not create it without drumloops. I count it as a technical weakness. The second part of the tune is somewhat... err, a very strange piece. I must tell You I don't like it, the sax part is a bit dull but okay - in comparison to the upcoming part... no, I said, that is terrible. Sorry. The first part is a really interesting experiment, nice sounding, but what happened to You when tracking the second half? :) |
Judge: Rice ,Jeremy The bubbles are a funky addition to the opening. The opening is, by the way, a little slow (nothing happens for a long time). It would have been more interesting if you had done something with the drum loops... Something more interesting than the stop/start from around 1:30 to 2:00. I like the rhythm around 2:30... But I wish you had done something other than hitting that noise snare on the 2 and 4 beats all the time. Both the sax and the piano need some variation in volumes--they sound too flat as-is. The piano should be quieter, too. Around 4:15, the sax lead gets too high in pitch, and starts to sound like a synth (I acutally like that effect, though). I wish you would change keys or progressions in here, though. The decaying ending is a bit generic... It doesn't 'say' much. The sample quality is passable, the technique is lacking in most areas but shows some strengths (like rhythm), and the song flows fairly well (I like the way the mood changes slowly over the course of the song from mellow and funky to something a little more dramatic, to a more melodic, moving feeling.) Overall, this song was a reasonable veteran entry. |
Judge: Majeran ,Nick This song is much too long for its own good. Cut out the patterns with that very annoying gunshot snare, and this song could have been improved tremendously. Clocking in at over six minutes, I did not really see any need for the song to be that long. "Mindscape 2" definately had some good parts to it. The panning was used quite effectively. The sample set was good. Most of the mechanics were fine, "Mindscape 2" just needs some better musical transitions to tie it all together. |
Judge: Pinkas ,JanPinky After the pretty long start some idea of song swimms up. That's pitty that it is cca in 3rd minute of song. That gives to song some more points. |
Judge: Mcphesron ,Jonathan I can think of a number of words to describe this particular tune. One of them is: LONG. It took Impulse Tracker over six minutes to while its way through this piece. And, of course, all the best stuff was after the four minute mark. Another is: ORIGINAL. Yes, I'd give this artist high points for some interesting songwork. You can't fall asleep whilst listening to this bit of music. I especially noted the sudden stopping and starting near the beginning of the song and other bits of unconventional stuff that really added well to the song. Unfortunately, there wasn't much else about the song that was notable. I did think the rhythm and percussion was well done, at least to begin with. I don't know for certain, of course, but it sounds an awful lot like the artist began by setting a chord progression they liked against the percussion, playing with the percussion for a bit while maintaining nothing other than the plain old chords for music (that got really old really fast), then finding a beat they liked and letting it play endlessly while the music becomes dynamic, utilizing a meandering (yet well-done) lead. Just a suggestion, but if the dynamic musical bits had been mixed with the dynamic percussive bits, this song would have been only half as long and probably twice as interesting. |
