Judge: Wu, Sherman Impressive opening (even though it's quiet - a plus :) It's mysterious atmosphere is very compelling. The effects mixed in well too. I like the development through the song. Even though the drums were pretty similar through the song, it we broken up enough to be unique through the song (other special effect samples also helped). This song has a unique mysterious atmosphere that filled the listener with interest why relaxing him (me :) Love it. |
Judge: Norilo, Vesa Good samples and excellent tracking technique for an intermediate entrant. Use of stereo was well thought of, altough sometimes the mix gets very confusing and I can't seem to follow all the sonic things going on around me. Excellent moods in most of the parts, but some of the buildups you have done just disappointingly end without leading into anything. Either a memorable theme or a real killer-structure (like in MC5 Veteran 2nd) would have made this one a great song indeed. It still is very, very good. |
Judge: Hegstad, Jorgen I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but this is a very INTELLIGENT tune. It is also one of the strangest and BEST tunes I heard this MC. I heard it one time - didn't sort anything out. I heard it a second time - harmonies, beats and feel started creeping under my skin. I heard it a third time - I was completely lost in its strange world of anarchism, violent moodswings and tender leads. It is tracked with the knowledge of a professional; razor-sharp yet innovative and playful. All parts are of an exceptional quality - both harmonywise, stylewise and by means of tracking qualities. I especially fancy the ending with the sonar-sounding C-6 shimmering through the fog. I hope You, the Composer, will continue creating such works of art and I wish you the best of luck. |
Judge: Khalili, Mehran Storytelling intro. Sample 27 from Lizardking doesn't fit confortably with the others - it's too shrill and tinny - so it's a shame it's so overrused. When the tune (finally) gets going by order 17, the drums are too messy for the tune to flow, and the guitar melody just sounds stuck. The drumless section from order 37 is half-decent, but this can't save the tune from its mediocrity. There's just not enough variation in the chords or melodies to warrant loading this one up again. |
Judge: Korte, Jouni A quite original tune made with good taste and technique. The sample quality was mostly ok and the sampleset sounded also original. With a little better samples this would have been a real killer! For some reason the beginning of this tune sounded oddly familiar, as if I had heard something like this from some CD before. Probably use of some individual sample made that and I'm not accusing the composer of anything. The more I listened this tune the more I began to like it an that is a very positive quality in a song. |
Judge: Trencsenyi, Zsolt The most unique song I've listened to in this contest. Your song has an outstanding atmosphere, samples... Some J. M. Jarre impressions can be found here, combined with violin, hmm, nice that's all I can say. The freqency line is a bit unballanced, there are more mid&high-range tones, You should compensate by stronger bass. |
Judge: Carman, Richard really neat song. very origional, haven't heard much like it. The samples were also very neato. The technique was very nice too, cept you could of used more effects and whatnot. sounded kinda random at parts.. |
Judge: Swoboda, Matt Yes, I like this song - it's got a good atmosphere. The tracking is very controlled and skillful, with careful use of volume slides. It's got some very nice violin, too. It's got a lot of good synth sounds, including a nice leadish sound which comes in three different samples with varying textures, and some good pad samples. However I don't much like the drums, and I think the composer could have found some much better sounds which are less harsh. It needed some more triphop-ish drums, perhaps some good cut up jazz drum loops. Something softer and more smokey. I don't really like the panning on the drums, either. The song walks this thin line between being well layered and being messy. There are lots of sounds, all together, mainly synth sounds of a similar range, and there is a danger that it could just lose all the different parts into one big mess. Fortunately the composer seems to have enough skill to make it work for most of the song, although around the middle it does lose it's way somewhat. The beginning is very nice indeed, but around the middle it seems to rely to much on the drums and effects for any variety, and all the pads get lost together. Fortunately this is fixed when the violin comes back in and the drums go away, and it returns to the main theme (so much as there is one). The ending is also very high quality. Good marks in all categories, although a slightly lower form mark than the other categories. This is a very good soundtrack-type song. Not much of a catchy melody, clever solos and chords or a big groove, but instead a well-formed atmosphere which sounds excellent. A few smallish changes, and you're there. |
Judge: Grillmaier, Sebastian Mostly clean, 8bit samples, well tuned. Another weird style mix. Originality means nothing but crossover to you, you are wrong. Slightly unharmonic passages (wrong portas). Effect overkill. But you could have made your life easier with NNAs. Good intro, effectful song, cool outro as well. Sorry for not going more in-depth. |
Judge: Basic, Predrag Good mood music. Nice intro with great use of virbrato and most effects. The author seems to have decent control of the speed effect ;) The only real techincal fault I could find was in pattern 51 where the lead should have been louder. What can I say, it certainly left me in a weird mellow mood, which is what it was supposed to do I guess. Good job. :) |
Judge: Brink, Ola Very artistic song with fine technique. Quite original. Slight problems in the progression though. Need more melodies. Some of the samples sound like they arenīt original. |
