- an 8ch. 500k C64-tune with Hubbard overtones.. could this go wrong? Yes, it could. But: it does not. Au contraire; it is a brilliant, delicious and absolutely overwhelmingly good tune. In my opinion by far this MC's best. Not only does the composer show stunning skills in tracking, he also has a surprisingly high-developed ear for catchy leads and funky basslines. It's original and ingenious (the c64 drums are just enormous) and it laughs the 64ch techno tunes right in the face. "Biohazard" contains good transitions, excellent beats and also has the rare ability of toying around with the genre. The start, albeit a *TAD* too long, is VERY c64-ish (I especially enjoy your hihat variations), the mid-part funk just makes me jump around on the floor and the gentle ending just dots the 'i'. Your choice of samples is, of course, excellent. If any tune ever has deserved to win such a compo, it is "Biohazard".

Interesting tune with C64 samples. Intro rather cliched, chords get boring fast and the whole section could be better panned out. Good transition to the (much better) second section, which is funky and melodic. Melody is catchy throughout this section, although using another lead sample at times could have helped it from sounding monotonous. Once again, the panning is lacking. Good chord progressions that don't get old. I admire your courage in entering this track into Veteran. Very listenable and musically excellent, but the grainy C64 sound has limited appeal. Let's see how well it does.

Retrosounds! The usual "chip tune" song - I thought. Then the change of register and style. The song is catching, and keeps the listener awake and happy, with its own unique style. I always dreamed to hear a C64 playing music with 6/7 voices instead of a 3 voices SID. And this song realized my dream. But a good idea is nothing without good technique to render it, and here the musician shows his better cards. Talented artist, this guy reminds me the winner of last music contest, for some typical passages recognizable during the song.

- no polish to final sound - awful sounding percussion - funky bassline though - I thought the synth lead patterns were a nintendo game until I remembered where i was - why Biohazard for a title?? this sin't Heavy Metal for sure.. its not even evil sounding, nasty maybe, but thats the sample choices - overall, not my type of tune, but kudos for the complexity of the tracking itself -

This tune definately catches the spirit of the good old Commodore 64! It reminds me of the music I used to hear, when I myself was active on the C64, and actually I'm pretty sure, that this composer himself has spent more than a decade doing music on the C64. Here's a hint. There once was a guy called MOZART, and he composed musIC. His dog was called GErry and for some reason his wife was called IRene. And finally his son went to Tilburry's Jolly Erotic Leisure Texture Academy. Anyway, back to the music. The first part of the tune is very bombastic and sounds like something created for a good old C64 hero-game. Second part is the really funky and swinging part, which makes my head bounce back and forth to the rhythm. No doubt that this tune is very original - who would've thought about using simple samples from the C64 (some from "Commando" by Rob Hubbard) and make a tune like this - little less enter it into a huge competition, which has an audience much larger than at any party. It's form is well structured - the technique is very good - the samples are ofcourse not the best quality given the fact, that they _are_ SID-samples, but still, the quality is rather good! Overall - well, I'm rating this sucker quite high, and you'd better believe it deserves it! :)

Originality: Quite original. The rythm is really innovative. Nice progression and mood. Form: Very nice mood, which variates. But a little broken into clear sections. Technique: The solo-stuff is great! But the base intr. is too "grumsy". The effects are nicely done, so is the panning. Samples: The bass samples is too "maximized" Good samples which I don't think I've heard before. Overall Appeal: The bass samples messes up the tune. With a little "easier" bass this could be much greater tune.

Chiptune sonorities are geat ! The ideas you put in this song are awesome. You seem to have sampled a C64 :) Well, the result is a success.

C64 is dead. I mean really. Let it rest in peace, please. Aren't there really any interesting samples to be found on your harddisk? The smps you used make your tune hard to listen to, even though it's really well written. Why oh why did you kill such great solos and basslines with those chip samples?

Judge: Lee, Elliott

Definitely veteran tracking skill here. You've got samples reminiscent of the old C64 chips yet the orchestration of modern tracker music. The phase effects on the samples don't detract from the style but give more life to it all. The appregio effects were also very complimentary to the rest of instruments. And as far as chippy tunes go, this one _moves_. It has rhythm and style. Leads are strong and make good use of the pitch sliding. The reprisal ending segment was also a great idea. Excellent job.

The modul idea is very cool. One of the best nostalgy trips I ever had in the last years by listening Tracker-Modules. This is a really great chip tune. A must for the old school freaks. The realization of this tune is great and i love it :-) You can imagine the nice old fashioned screen according to this modul. Lot´s of scrollers, sprites... at least something that I´m missing in the actual scene, but as i can (see) hear, it still exists. (I´m listening to it at the moment!!!)Perhaps this tune can motivate other musicians to keep composing chip tunes.
