Judge: Moyes, Glen Wow... This song is REALLY quite good. You had an excellent choice of instruments. You had plenty of good ideas that made the song interesting. Plenty of changes and ideas in this song made it really enjoyable. However, even though you had some great ideas, the transition between two of them (between Order 30-31) could have been better. The idea in Order 31 was good, but the transition wasn't. I think you might be taking too many short-cuts in your song. I was also expecting more from the ending. Also, there is one thing I noticed that was a technical problem, but didn't really hurt the song, it is this... Pianos can NOT do a pitch slide (unless you have a friend inside the piano touching the strings for you). That was just a minor problem (noticed it at Order 7), but beside all of that, this is really a great sounding song. Great Job! |
Judge: Glines, Mark The intro made me think of christmas. I found the overall tune a little hard to follow... its well percussioned and back-waved but still seems to be missing something. I dunno. |
Judge: Jonsson, Agust You take my breath away. You obviously have spent a lot of time studying everything IT has to offer, you obviously have spent a lot of time creating and studying music and you use show it here. This is just pure skill, the track is *so* beautifully formed and put together, you seem to have spent ages finetuning all the samples and the instrument envelopes. And best of all, this is an excellent track for it's style, masterfully put together, it flows beautifully and has enough variety and small hooks to keep the listener hooked. I have nothing to offer to you, you definitely know all this stuff a *lot* better than I do :) Overall, excellent piece of work! |
Judge: Brown, Yannis This tune was very refreshing. It was laid back and had a nice tune. Some of the samples were a little on the loud side such as the pianos which dominated the foreground when they should have been really mid-level. Samples needed more work. They were quite muffled except for the bell synth and pianos. The bass was very nice, except very low and so it was hard to hear at times. The chord sequence was varied and kept interesting. However the tune starts and stops very suddenly. The panning was heavily dependant upon envelopes which were well constructed giving an even spread across the balance. This leads be to believe the tune was rushed, and not enough time spent on smoothing things out. Some sections sound like they were written seperately and then stuck together in the end, so the transition was rough, though they do work nicely I must admit. For some reason parts of this tune remind me of Pink Floyyd's "Learning To Fly" with the sweeping melody. The rythm didn't get varied much either which I found dissappointing. Looks like a cut and paste drum track to me. Overall, it's very nice background music which can be left looping :) Something to hum to! |
Judge: Jagdmann, Dirk m6v-vsid.it - Vivid on de Sidewalk ------------------------------------ Overall: This song features many high pitches (bell like) lead sounds which make the melody together with a piano. Orginality: This song lacks of a real new idea. It just contains many heard before parts. The sound of the song stays the same throughout the song and one can not really make a difference between the different patterns of the song. Most of the time all intruments play together, so the sound changes only minimal. Form: It seems as if the different instruments play more on their own than together. This leads to somehow confusing parts, when the listener can not clearly d decide where to listen. The main intruments changes often and abrupt, so it is difficult to spot, what the composer tries to express in a certain situation. Technique: The song is not overloaded with effects. They are placed where needed, but no overkill. What I like is the well balanced volume for each instrument. Each single instrument can be heard clearly and there is none too loud or quiet. Sample: ok Point: 40 |
Judge: Hesse, Liam Apart from a few uncomfortable key changes, I can't find anything wrong with this one. It's bright, pretty, and very listenable. =) I'm almost certain to keep hold of this one. The ending could have been more developed, but it's okay as it stands. |
Judge: Norilo, Vesa Again, many good things, but sadly, a few bad ones too. Sample set works quite well, you make it work to the end you are aiming at. Some bell parts get too nuts, too many channels with too slow decays. The song has a smooth form, but it is somehow so featureless I am in danger of nodding off. I could listen to it for hours without getting annoyed, but then again, it doesn't really please my ears even for the first minutes. To improve much, try to make your music communicate something. Aim everything somewhere. :) Don't just add stuff for the sake of adding it. Think and analyze. But do retain that intuition that was behind this good tune. |
Judge: Grandpre, Dan Nice electric piano sound in the intro, nice vox-ish background as well, and the bassline works. The piano is awful though! I wish it had not been brought back after that initial pattern it's in. Very simple 4ths and 5ths kind of piano riffs, like Mike Post TV themes (i bet you wish you forgot those..).. When the progression that starts out minor hits a little bit into the song it's very effective. A good use of a change in tonality. The melodies are very simple and corny but they work over the instrumentation (which would be too busied by excessive notes and too many tensions and such in the melodic lines)-- the only thing that strips down the cohesiveness of the mix is the awful piano sound.. A few patterns past the middle, a synth sound holds over way too long-- however soon after that a really nice tonality shift back to minor again is nicely placed. Nice background lines throughout, which is *incredibly* rare in tracked music.. Awful 4ths and 5ths on the piano again, followed by a nice light bit on the ep again... This reminds me of some Thomas Dolby stuff-- very good handle on the piece and use of instrumentation, a combination of more traditional and synthetic- well-arranged. Sounds Erasure-influenced as well (not that name-dropping helps a review very much)-- overall a bit corny but not so much that it overshadows the considerable talent of the author. |
Judge: Prouteau, Thierry One of the richest song i heard on MC6. But a few things prevent it from being number one. There is not enough variation on your song. I can't remember if there is a clear chorus or verse (that's what makes a song a sucess if you can recall some notes). There is maybe to much samples. I know that i said the song was rich, but i have examples of rich songs with less samples. Moreover, the panning is good, but what is the use of the left-right stereo sample panning ? It's funny to watch in Impulse Tracker, but was it really useful ? |
